I Believe In You
Idea behind the song:
This song might be my favorite. One of the reasons I am teaching 8th grade is because I had such a hard time getting through this period in my life. When students are going through hardships there is almost no end to my empathy! Our students (even some that appear fully whole on the exterior) can be so fragile! Never underestimate the power of a "believing" adult.
Lesson idea:
I don't really use this as a part of a formal lesson but I might use it as a time-keeping device.
If a student is going through a really hard time and needs encouragement, I might put this song in a card, encouraging students to hang on.
"My life's had some ups and downs. But I can't really say "I know". But this much I know for sure. They definiately help you grow. So dig down deep and I'll be your shoulder to lean. When you're helpless and your back's against the wall. You're at the end of your rope, bracing to fall. Tie a knot and hold on with all of your might. And find the strength, relief is in sight. You'll come through, I believe in you."
