Secrets For A Happy Life

Idea behind the song:

Some groups are harder to say good-bye to than others. There have been a few that have torn me apart! This May will mark my twentieth year. The familiar cycle of meeting, teambuilding, bonding then saying good-bye to students can take its toll on me! I want my students to know that the feelings we share are just as real to me as they are to them and I am emotionally invested in our work together as well. This song is my attempt to bring closure and leave my students with a personal, parting throught. I print the lyrics out and give it to them on a book mark.

Lesson idea:

First of all, when introducing the song, add your own parting thoughts. Say something like, "If I had written this song, I'd say, stay away from illegal substances, or exercise and eat right every day. " It gives the perfect time to interject those things you have told them over and over throughout the year. They will think of that during the song.

This song makes the perfect slide-show background. One of the teachers on my team puts an AWESOME end-of-the-year slideshow together and each teacher has her own song. She shows pictures of the students and I and our spent in the classroom together.
