"Lewis and Clark conquered the West with nothing more than buckshot and a pen." --Stephen Ambrose

Do you know about

What went down two hundred years ago?

Thirty some-odd men and one important girl

Two hundred years ago It was

The Great American Adventure

On a Journey into the unknown they did embark

Searchin’ for the “Northwest Water Passage”

It tested the human spirit to its mark

Lewis and Clark / Lewis and Clark

Two and one half years With no modern ways

And help was out of sight

Well, they might as well have been on the moon!

But teamwork made it alright (it was)

The Great American Adventure

On a Journey into the unknown they did embark

Travelin’ up the great Missouri River

Tested the human spirit to its mark

Lewis and Clark / Lewis and Clark

Bridge: I know all do not celebrate this American military feat

For it took one’s loss for another man’s gain

And things have never been the same

It’s a shame / who’s to blame? It’s a shame

Lewis, the scientist, brilliant but dark

And Clark, strong and maker of maps

So much to learn about humankind

From the journey of these two chaps (it was)

The Great American Adventure

On a Journey into the unknown they did embark

Called the Corps. Of Discovery

It tested the human spirit to its mark
